I’ve helped teams and leagues celebrate legendary athletes and their career achievements for more than a quarter century now. Each and every one needs to speak to the visual culture of a particular club and its fanbase, but some, such as 1997’s Jackie Robinson 50th anniversary mark, were created with every single club in mind. That logo was deployed across an incredibly wide range of platforms—it even appeared on an official United States commemorative silver dollar. Remembering epic careers, marking great milestones, and perpetuating the life work of esteemed individuals—all of this involves navigating often complex terrain, with involvement from stakeholders from leagues, teams, agents and business representatives, and families.
